#Inflation Week raises more questions as #Tariffs cloud the outlook…
🔍 Powell investigation. The DOJ has reportedly opened an investigation into Fed Chair Powell. He responded to the accusations claiming a witch hunt for refusing faster #RateCuts. However, the White House has denied intent to remove Powell.
☯️ Mixed inflation. Core CPI rose +0.2% in December accelerating slightly, but cooler than expected. However, Core PPI ran hotter in October/November rising +0.9% across the two-month period. Concerns remain on if #Tariffs eventually flow through to #Inflation.
⏸️ Market pause. #Inflation week was supposed to bring clarity, but instead ultimately left markets with more questions. The S&P 500 briefly hit new all-time highs early in the week, but finished slightly lower -0.4% as #Inflation and #Tariffs uncertainty crept back in.
