Nvidia Earnings Blowout: What It Could Mean For The AI Trade
Off the charts and sold out — Nvidia’s earnings just sent a clear signal that the #AI buildout isn’t down yet.
Nvidia absolutely crushed expectations this quarter. Revenue hit $57B blowing past its own $54B guidance and the Street’s $55B estimate. Next quarter looks even bigger with Nvidia guiding to $65B-far above the Street’s $62B.
What’s driving it? Demand for its new Blackwell #AI chips. Orders are off the charts and cloud GPUs are basically sold out.
Heading into this report, the big worry was: is the #AI buildout overhyped and can this spending actually last? These results don’t really answer the sustainability question… but on the hype side, the message is loud and clear: at least right now, #AI demand is real and it’s massive.
We’re seeing that spill into afterhours trading. It’s not just Nvidia up — the entire #AI infrastructure ecosystem is ripping higher: chips, servers, networking, and even power suppliers (data centers run on a ton of electricity). We expect that strength to carry into tomorrow.
Meanwhile, hyperscalers are also up in afterhours, but that might be more about a sentiment rebound for risk assets. The report didn’t really tell us whether the #AI spending is sustainable which really boils down to is the monetization there. So, those gains could be more muted once the market reopens.
Zooming out, Nvidia’s earnings may shift sentiment higher after a four-day slide, but the #LaborMarkets September jobs report could ultimately be the bigger driver. That hits tomorrow and could be a bigger mover outside #AI buildout names. A surprise either way would likely swing #RateCuts expectations — which fell to about a third after the hawkish Fed minutes.
