#Inflation and #Tariffs: Here’s What Moved Markets
💸 Inflation holds. June CPI accelerated from May, but lower than expected. Meanwhile, PPI was flat M/M. Overall, headline #Inflation continues to hold the line. However, at a more granular level, #Inflation appears to be sneaking into #Tariffs impacted segments.
😊 Consumer holds. June retail sales grew 0.6% topping expectations. In addition, preliminary consumer sentiment also rose slightly in-line with expectations. Similar to #Inflation, #ConsumerConfidence is also appearing to hold, but not sharply rebounding.
📈 Markets hold. Markets wavered at times this week－opening lower on more weekend #Tariffs updates and after the White House escalated its Fed criticism again. However, ultimately, the S&P 500 rallied and ends the week up +0.6%.
